Module 10 Grade 1 EIR® Procedures (October - February)
Day 1, Step 2
The second step of the Day 1 routine is to read the story to the children first. It is important to track for them, to insist their eyes are with you, and to use 4-5 words from the story to illustrate to the children different strategies for figuring out words. If you have not already read the story aloud, you should talk about the meaning of words you feel children may not know (we have suggested possible words for students in general and for English Language Learners in the Vocabulary List for grade 1, which is in your manual). After you read the story to the children, read it again with them chiming in.
